ZENtheRapper: A Journey of Self-Discovery Mediated By Music

Music has this way of connecting to that part of ourselves which can never fully be expressed with language alone. For me, music has been about discovering my “Historic Self.” Making peace with the litany of causes and conditions that has led to the experience I contend with today. Plato said that “music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” I tend to agree with Plato here.

My journey started out as a practice of journaling. At 21 years old, with hope filling my front pockets, and a history degree in my back pocket, I began reflecting on what I found valuable in this world, and the ways I could find peace through adding value.

The arduousness of this process so far, tells me this will be a lifelong process. But to this point, I have determined that knowledge, wisdom, and expression, are uniquely important to me.

I have labored to forge a unique path of artistry in the ways of edutainment, and in the styles of Hip-Hop. My music reflects a mind yearning for growth. A mind exploring the wisdom traditions of the world through literature and exploring adult life through performing and growing as a musician. My music reflects my enlightenment towards my role as an artist as a benefit to society.
